Can Tragic Events Cause Haunts?

I know ghosts can come from people's tragic lives/deaths. What if a person has gone through many tragic events in a certain area (like a house they grew up in) and then they move far away. Can they haunt that previous space and still be alive somewhere else?

You may be referring to a memory imprint, or the Akashic Records theory.

This can happen with any events and it is said that everthing that takes place is recorded, but usually we pick up on the more emotional ones, or tragic events and we call them haunts when that happens.

Can they haunt that previous space and still be alive somewhere else?

It wouldn't be considered a haunting, since the person is still alive. It is possible their 'impression' is there, so I would say it's possible that someting is going on. The strength of the impressions you can receive from it depends on how much focus is trained on it.

Your episode sounds like it would fit in with either the memory imprint or the akashic records theory. Since the person is still alive it isn't considered a haunt in the true sense of the word.

You can find more about it at Memory Imprint
